BPMU, Udayana Quality Assurance Board is a university board having duties to assist the Rector in implementing the quality assurance system in Udayana University. This board was established under the Decrees of Udayana University Rector No. 56/J14/KP. 02.18/2006; No. 159/J14/PR.01.11/2006; and No. 175/J14/KP.02.18/2006.

BPMU has a chairperson and a secretary, supported by four divisions: Division 1 (Academic Studies and Development); Division 2 (Monitoring and Evaluation); Division 3 (Education and Training) and Division 4 (Standardization and Accreditation).

Quality is, institutionally the main agenda and the quality improvement constitutes the most important duty. Quality has, therefore been long focussed by Udayana University. The efforts to improve it have been done. In order to make it well organized and systematiced, Udayana has developed what is called by High Education Quality Assurance System (SPM-PT). In order to implement it, Udayana has established a board called Badan Penjaminan Mutu Universitas Udayana (henceforth : BPMU). BPMU functions to assisst Rector in implementing the QA process at the University level. It was established under the Rector Decrees No. 56/J14/KP.02.18/2006.; No 159/J14/PR.01.11/ 2006. No. 175/J14/KP.02.18/2006.

The establishment of BPMU constitutes a form of awareness and care of Udayana University toward the education quality. The leaders and all civitas academica of Udayana University are aware that the application of quality management in education is the development from concept of total quality management (TQM). This concept, phylosophically emphasizes on consistenly searching the sustainable improvement to obtain the stakeholders’ need and satisfaction.

Based upon such awareness, the realization of TQM in academic sector, Udayana University pays attention and applies continuous quality improvement, determines quality standard, change of culture, change the organization system (upside-down organization), keeping close relationship to the customers. In order to implement such important things above, Udayana University already decided institutional quality system, composed quality mannual, several implementational documents such as : procedural mannual, working instruction, forms, etc), socialized the quality standard, instutution, mannual and documents to all internal stakeholders and implemented the mentioned documents.
